Gambling in my Video Games…

I always like to roll the dice!

Personally I have never been the biggest gambler, I always play my cards and my wallet, close to my chest.  However, in the land of video games (where you really have nothing to lose), I do enjoy being a high-roller!

C64AutoDuel-PreviewOne of my earliest video game gambling experiences came from Origin Systems classic “caRPG”, Autoduel.  While my young mind had a tough time dealing with this merciless game, what I did discover was how much fun I had earning cash at the Casino in Atlantic City.  The money earned from my stints at in game gambling helped make up for my shortfalls as a courier within the game.  While I was nowhere near completing the game, it introduced me to the fun that is virtual gambling!

DoaxbvboxAnother earlier, yet more recent, example of enjoying an in-game casino came from my time with Team Ninja’s Dead or Alive: Xtreme Beach Volleyball.  While the Volleyball, mini-games, and dress-up were fun, the bulk of my time with this game was spent at Zack’s Casino.  I spent many an evening at the card tables or the slots just killing time or trying to earn a fortune for some of the game’s exotic suits.  It was a nice call way to spend some time on my Xbox!

That was then, and this is now.   Here is a list of both my recent favourite gamblin’ games as well as what I am looking forward to in the near future:

Test Drive Unlimited 2 – Casino Online

TDU2 Casino Online on the same day as Test Drive Unlimited 2 on XBLM and will include classic casino games like poker, roulette, and slots. The player will have a chance to unlock exclusive cars while playing these casino games.  All prizes and cars won in the casino can be carried over into Test Drive Unlimited 2!  Guaranteed I will be gambling to earn those rare cars!

Fable II Pub Games

Another example of an external casino designed to port over cash and prizes (or debt) to its parent game is Fable II Pub Games.  I really enjoyed playing the variety of games made for the old-world Fable RPG.  While in some ways they were familiar to standard casino games, in other ways they were completely different.  Sometimes it is just fun to play the mini-games that a game has to offer, and Fable II’s Pub Games are some of the best!

Full House Poker

I have been a casual poker fan for some time, as such I am very excited for the upcoming XBLA title, Full House Poker.  Many poker games have come and gone, but I have a good feeling about this one.  With it being a downloadable game, having Avatar support, and it being set up as the spiritual successor to one of my personal favourites, 1 vs 100, this game will be a slam-dunk.

I am sure there are several others from my past I haven’t mentioned.  And if I had made it to the strip in Fallout: New Vegas yet, I may have mentioned that as well.  But between TDU2 and Full House Poker on their way, I see my future is in the cards!

I like CFL Football, Video Games, and Social here I am!
