On the Rain Slick Precipice of Darkness: Episode 1

I have been meaning to write about this game since it came out a few weeks back, but I have never found the time until now.  Penny Arcade Adventures: On the Rain Slick Precipice of Darkness – Episode 1 is one of the better XBLA experiences available today.  I have had a hankering for a lite RPG for download for some time.  With its episodic nature (four part over the next 2-3 years) there will be plenty of RPG action for the immediate future.

Episode 1 gives me that old school point-and-click adventure feel (like Maniac Mansion or Zak McKracken) as you explore your surroundings.  The game is rife with Penny Arcade humour, and is the case with their style, it is hit and miss.  If you enjoy their style of humour, you should get a kick out of this game.  The meat of this game is its combat, it is as good or better that much of the RPG offerings on the market today. Now due to its size it won’t compete with full-price games, but as a gamer you will not be dissapointed.

I am maybe half way through Episode 1 and I hopefully finish it in short order.  Word from the creators is they hope to have Episode 2 out by the end of the year.  It will be interesting to see what tweaks may come from future episodes.

It looks good but I can never get past turn based combat…I have no patience!  :P

  2. Patrick says:

The combat in this game really is almost too fast…there really is a lot going on.
