Gears of War is just around the corner…
Well the wait is nearly over. The 360’s most hyped game is just about to rock our consoles. When we were first introduced this this game at E3 2005 we knew it was going to be something special; and over the next 12 months information on this game trickled out slowly just allowing us small glimses of its promise.
Since E3 2006 we started to see the complete picture, and when it was all said and done, Gears looks to be one of the greatest video game experiences of our time. I have watched the movies, seen the hype machine chugging away, and I am impressed and more than happy with what I see…
The reigning king…
One thing I notice though, remember two years ago…a little game called Halo 2 hit the shelves, and what I am missing this time around that was there 2 years ago is the intense anticipation. In 2004 I took a week off work, I showed up at the store 1.5 hours before midnight because I could not wait at home any longer, I raced home and played until about 4:30 am only to come back on for more as soon as I awoke. It was a time that I could only compare with the launch of the 360 for unbridled anticipation.
What I think the diference this time around is though everybody is ready to take the plunge, many do not know what to expect completly. Halo 2 already had a built-in, rabid fan base that had been waiting for 3 years. Another thing is that there is so many great 360 games that one game does not have to be a system mesiah, If Gears never appeared, we would still be living in an unbelievable time of gaming.
In conclusion, I am very stoked about Gears of War! I have been following it since day one and I know it will not only live up to, but surpass the hype. Though I won’t be off work, I will be on a 4-day weekend after launch and will be playing the heck out of Gears! I am also stoked about Call of Duty 3, Rainbow 6 Vegas, Bioschock, Halo 3, etc… It is a golden age of gaming and that is the diference!
